The internship assignment
You will help us collect questionnaire data from young people and their parents at secondary schools and via their smartphones (using the Experience Sampling Method, ESM). You will visit the educational locations to introduce the research to the young people, explain what they need to do, and guide them in completing the questionnaires. You will assist in preparing for the visits and, afterwards, help process the data. You will recruit, monitor, follow up with, and encourage young people who complete a very short questionnaire every day via their own phones. Additionally, you will help us recruit the parents of the participating young people. You will contact these parents (for example, via email or phone) and explain why it is extremely important that they participate as well!
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute practically to and brainstorm ongoing research. You will do this together with a team of other interns and researchers from the SOCIALs project. This research will take place between early September and mid-December 2026 at various locations throughout the Netherlands. You will receive training beforehand.
The ideal intern has:
You are pursuing a Bachelor's or (Research) Master's degree in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Pedagogy, or a related field. You are proactive, socially skilled, and not afraid to talk to young people and parents from diverse backgrounds. You have an affinity with themes such as youth, digital media, and (online) safety. You speak fluent Dutch. You have an internship supervisor or contact person at the university who can be included in the internship agreement.

What we offer
You will gain experience with various aspects of research, such as respondent recruitment, administering questionnaires (both longitudinal and ESM questionnaires), and data processing;
You will gain experience with how a scientific project operates in practice;
An internship allowance depending on your hours worked (based on €425 gross per month based on 1.0 FTE);
Internship of at least 3 months in September-December 2026 (approximately 2 days/week).
Please note: it is not possible to write a thesis within this internship.
More information
You will travel throughout the country to administer questionnaires at various locations, in the Randstad as well as in the North, South, and East of the Netherlands. Additionally, you will occasionally be present at the NSCR office in Amsterdam (near Station Zuid), where you will perform other research-related tasks. You will receive training at the beginning of the internship period.
