A message from the director

As always, time flies in these weeks before the summer break. We can look back on a few busy and rewarding months. I think we achieved a lot:  First of all, our evaluation results (SEP) are outstanding, you might have seen the note in the last newsletter. It took a while until the report of the committee was ready but it was worth to wait. Second, several nice and special projects were funded. The KIC grant (Teun van Ruitenburg, with Avans Hogeschool) on crime scripts is definitely worth mentioning here. Third, our PhD elective courses started this year and the response was very good. Fourth, we will be ISO 27001 certified in the fall, the audit was successful, thanks to the intensive preparation and the good work of many! This means a lot to our institute, our information security management system meets all requirements and is state of the art.

Last but not least, and as you can read below, the NSCR organized, together with the MPI Freiburg, a summer school for PhD candidates in criminology. This was a great success, young scholars from different European countries came to us and enjoyed learning and discussions. It was a fantastic group of people!

Of course, NSCR people are doing also other things and enjoying our community. We had a great sip & paint party, with painting Bob Ross motives and sipped tropical drinks, and a memorable summer party, where everyone brought the tastiest food and we watched the Dutch soccer team winning the match!  Especially in times like ours, with so much going on in our society and in the world it is great to have a place where work and socializing go together.

With all these activities and events, we all deserve a holiday, where we reload our batteries and be inspired by nature, music, and lovable people.
