NWO-I and the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) invite applications for the position of Director of NSCR.
NSCR is the Netherlands’ leading national interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to the scientific study of crime, victimisation, law enforcement, and how society responds to issues of security and justice. As part of the Foundation of Dutch Scientific Research Institutes (NWO-I), NSCR combines independent, methodologically rigorous research with a strong commitment to societal relevance. Its researchers work across disciplinary boundaries, bringing together expertise from fields including criminology, sociology, psychology, law, public administration, behavioural sciences and data science.
The Role
The Director provides scientific, strategic and organisational leadership to NSCR and shapes the institute’s future development. They will be responsible for further strengthening NSCR’s scientific excellence, societal impact, and national and international profile. Operating at the interface of research, policy and practice, the Director will also serve as an important ambassador for the institute, building and maintaining strong relationships across academia, government and wider society.
NSCR is seeking an internationally recognised scholar in a field relevant to the institute, with an excellent research track record and the vision and standing to lead a prominent interdisciplinary research institute. Candidates will bring leadership experience gained within a research or academic environment, a strong understanding of the Dutch and international research landscape, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of partners across academia, government and society. The Director will be approachable and collaborative, committed to supporting the development of scientific talent and to fostering an inclusive, inspiring and socially safe working environment.
The Director will be appointed for an initial term of five years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term of up to five years.

The closing date for applications is Monday 14 September at 10:00 CEST.
Following the closing date, the Appointment Advisory Committee (BAC) will undertake an initial review of applications. Perrett Laver will conduct preliminary discussions with longlisted candidates. The Committee will subsequently agree a shortlist of candidates to progress to the formal interview stages, which will take place in late October. Following these interviews, a preferred candidate will be identified and the formal appointment process will commence.
