NSCR regularly uses special data collections containing sensitive data for its research. When handling these data, security and integrity are paramount. To do this according to the highest standards, the institute has a specially equipped, highly secure working environment: the Secure Analytics Lab (SAL).

In order to demonstrably guarantee the security of these research data in accordance with the latest standards, the ISO 27001 certification has been initiated. Jolanta Kulicki, information security officer, says: 'Behind this journey is a mountain of dedication, all put down by a surprisingly small but powerful team supported by a management that believed in us, and the valuable perspective of our internal audit department. Together we ensured this wonderful result.'

Femke Tabak, institute manager: 'With the certificate, we as NSCR show that we handle all kinds of data very carefully, whether it is bodycam images or personal data. It's a fantastic achievement by the team that has laid down the policy for this and set up the IT and processes.'

ISO 27001

The ISO 27001 certification is a globally recognized standard for information security. It demonstrates that an organization has established a system (the Information Security Management System), to manage risks related to the security of data owned or processed by the organization, and that this system respects all the best practices and principles set forth in this international standard.

Information security

Certification of the SAL underscores the NSCR's commitment to information security. This means that the data in the SAL is confidential, incorruptible and available: confidential, because the data in the datasets are private and accessible only to authorized individuals; incorruptible, because the information is accurate and complete and there are no unauthorized changes; and available, because the data are accessible to authorized individuals when they need them.

Future-proof infrastructure

To ensure quality in the future, the SAL is subjected to the quality requirements of ISO 27001 every year. In doing so, the NSCR strives to ensure continuous quality in the management and use of the datasets.
