In 2017 she received a WISE fellowship to develop her research line on empirical studies of international criminal law and transitional justice after atrocities.\u00a0 Her research focuses in particular on (international) criminal trials, sentencing of international crimes, enforcement of international sentences, rehabilitation and reintegration of war criminals. Hola obtained her PhD in 2012 with a dissertation on consistency of sentencing at the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Although she is trained as a lawyer, she focuses on empirical legal research (ELS).
